The Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) brought together faculty, staff, community partners, and representatives from local universities and educational organizations, during a recent open house to celebrate their partnerships and collective achievements.

Dr. Nicole Patton-Terry kicked off the event with a warm and inspiring welcome speech that highlighted the excitement and dedication of the team at FCRR. She encouraged attendees to connect with the impactful work being done, emphasizing that its reach extends beyond the local community to a global audience. “We absolutely are very much interested in discovery for discovery's sake and building knowledge for knowledge's sake. But we are very much so interested in making sure that that knowledge is applied to what is happening with children and families and educators and communities and leaders both locally and globally,” said Dr. Patton Terry. The engaging and informative open house provided guests the opportunity to interact with faculty, students, and staff to learn about current projects, and explore many of the FCRR’s community partnerships and collective achievements.

"The Florida Center for Reading Research has been here for 20 years, and in that time, we have advanced reading for everyone, and we continue to do that work with enthusiasm, because the curiosity that is bred here, that makes those discoveries, that curiosity brings hope. Hope for the future and what it is that is possible for our children,” said Dr. Patton Terry.

With hundreds of attendees FCRR was abuzz with excitement as attendees mingled with faculty and students to learn how FCRR utilizes research, innovation, and engagement to advance reading in Florida and beyond.

FCRR is an interdisciplinary research center at FSU that investigates all aspects of reading and reading-related skills across the lifespan.
