Florida Center for Reading Research faculty member Dr. Donald Compton has been named a 2016 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Fellow. Founded in 1916, AERA is the largest national interdisciplinary research association devoted to the scientific study of education and learning. Dr. Compton, one of 22 scholars selected for fellowship, will be inducted on Saturday, April 9, during the AERA 2016 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Fellows are nominated by their peers and honored for their notable and sustained research achievements and contributions to the field.

Dr. Compton’s current research exams individual differences in children’s reading development and the identification and treatment of children with reading disabilities. He joined FCRR in 2015, having served as Professor and Chair of Special Education and a John F. Kennedy Center Investigator at Peabody College, Vanderbilt University. He has over 75 peer-review publications and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Educational Psychology, Journal of Learning Disabilities, Exceptional Children, and Scientific Studies of Reading.

The Florida Center for Reading Research is a multidisciplinary research center at Florida State University that explores all aspects of reading research — basic research into literacy-related skills for typically developing readers and those who struggle, studies of effective prevention and intervention, and psychometric work on formative assessment.
