    • Applying research-based instructional practices by differentiating process, product and context using an ongoing, systematic approach to data collection and problem solving.
  • Review the course syllabus and requirements.

Define Session Goals

  • Introduce Differentiated Instruction.
  • Explain the purpose of the course and course requirements.
  • Set expectations for future sessions and ground rules.

 

IES Video on Differentiated Instruction

  • Introduce differentiated instruction in reading (tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3) using the IES video on differentiated instruction.
  • Ask participants for examples of how they see instruction differentiated in all 3 tiers.
  • Explain the course is going to share information on how to differentiate instruction for learners in all tiers.
  • Explain specific examples of differentiated instruction for English Language Learners will be shared and differentiated instruction for learners with identified disabilities.

 

Introductions & Syllabus Review

  • Have participants introduce themselves.
    • What they currently teach
    • Years of teaching
    • Experiences differentiating instruction in reading
      • ELLs
      • Children with identified disabilities
  • Review the syllabus and culminating activity.
    • Check for understanding.
  • Establish roles and ground rules for upcoming sessions.
  • Review the schedule for upcoming sessions.
