Assistant in Research

Stephanie L. Brown is an accomplished educational researcher and educator currently serving as an Assistant in Research at the Florida Center for Reading Research, with the REL Southeast. She earned her Ph.D. from the department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies (ELPS) from Florida State University in 2017. She currently serves as an instructor for the ELPS department in advanced graduate courses in program evaluation during select semesters.

As a qualitative methodologist, Brown has extensive experience in educational research, having worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Center for Research in Policy and Practice at the University of Colorado Boulder and as a Graduate Research Associate with the National Center on Scaling Up Effective Schools. Her research interests include educational policy, research-practice partnerships, implementation science, and teacher preparation. She is passionate about leveraging the strengths of both qualitative and quantitative approaches to develop comprehensive research designs that provide a holistic view of research problems and problems of practice. Brown is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Educational Research Association (AERA). She was recently selected to participate in the William T. Grant Foundation’s Early Career Reviewer Program, based on her demonstrated commitment to the field of the use of research evidence.

She has held various teaching roles, including nine years as a public elementary teacher, in south and central Florida and briefly with Disney English in Beijing, China. In higher education, she has taught primarily at York College of Pennsylvania and Florida State University. Brown has published numerous articles in academic journals and has presented her work at various national and international conferences. Additionally, she has served in leadership and mentorship roles, including directing the Early Childhood Education Program at York College and supervising multiple student teachers over the years.

She resides in the Buck Lake area of Tallahassee with her husband, Christian; and is kept busy with her delightful kindergartener, Ellie; their "energetic" golden retriever puppy, Jax, and their 'senior' cat, Bernard, who has gracefully transitioned into his golden years.
