Sharon Koon, Ph.D.
Sharon Koon, Ph.D., is a Senior Research Associate at the Florida Center for Reading Research at Florida State University, where she uses applied statistics and psychometrics in studying educational issues for the REL Southeast. Prior to joining the Center, she served as the director of Florida's large-scale student and educator assessments at the Florida Department of Education. In this position, she gained applied experience in test development, administration, scoring, and reporting of assessments, including the use of item response theory, standard-setting, and hand-scoring practices, for those assessments used to meet Federal requirements and for teacher certification. She has over thirty years of experience in developing and implementing policies related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student progression through the educational system. Dr. Koon earned her doctoral degree in measurement and statistics from Florida State University.
