Ashlyn Hicks has worked at the Florida Center for Reading Research since 2018 in many different capacities. While working on her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology, she joined the lab of Dr. Christopher Lonigan as a Directed Individual Study Student but shortly after became a research assistant for a few projects, Goal 1, LD, and ATLAS.
In 2019, Ashlyn joined Dr. Sara Hart's IDCD Lab as a project manager for an NIH-funded nationwide twin study, The National Project on Achievement in Twins (NatPAT), through the Florida Learning Disabilities Research Center. While managing NatPAT, Ashlyn completed a Master of Science in Educational Psychology through Florida State University's (FSU) College of Education, with Dr. Beth Phillips serving as her advisor. In the Spring of 2022, she was promoted to the faculty position of Assistant in Research.
Ashlyn is now working toward a Master of Science in Organizational Management & Communication through FSU's College of Applied Sciences with a hopeful graduation at the end of the 2024 summer semester. Additionally, the IDCD lab recently received a grant to focus on potential long-term effects of COVID-19 on children's learning, extending the NatPAT project another five years. Ashlyn is looking forward to continuing her education at Florida State and being a small part of the growth of NatPAT and the IDCD Lab.
