The Department of Psychology at Florida State University is home to world-class scholars whose research consistently attracts national and international recognition. The FSU Department of Psychology offers focused Ph.D. training in the five primary domains of the discipline: Clinical, Cognitive, Developmental, Social and Neuroscience. FCRR Faculty are affiliated with the Developmental Psychology and Clinical Psychology programs. All students accepted into the doctoral training programs receive stipend support and tuition waivers – in return faculty ask students for the intense passion and dedication needed to address the difficult problems of human mind, brain, and behavior.

The College of Education Student Leadership Council (COESLC) is a standing committee of the Office of the Dean to provide for the mutual exchange of ideas and open dialogue between undergraduate and graduate students and the college administration. School of Communication Science & Disorders

The mission of the Florida State University School of Communication Science and Disorders is to generate and disseminate knowledge related to communication processes and disorders. The program prepares undergraduate and graduate students to demonstrate broad-based knowledge of communication sciences and to apply theory and research findings to clinical practice. The graduate program prepares speech-language pathologists to provide effective diagnostic and treatment services to individuals with a wide variety of speech, language, and hearing impairments. It prepares clinical scientists to generate new knowledge pertaining to communication processes and innovative strategies for evaluating and managing communication disorders.
The L.L. Schendel Speech and Hearing Clinic has a dual mission: (a) to provide effective community services that improve the communication abilities of individuals of all ages and (b) to provide a teaching and clinical research laboratory that seeks to develop exemplary assessment and treatment procedures for use by our students and professionals in speech-language pathology and audiology. Innovative and relevant theory development, research, and services are viewed as unitary- the academic effort, research effort, and the clinical effort all strive for one goal: the enhancement of the communicative well being of the individuals served.

The doctoral program in Communication Sciences and Disorders is designed to prepare researchers, teachers, and scholars in the field of Communication Science and Disorders to conduct clinical research and work in leadership roles within academic positions at universities, research institutes, state and national agencies and organizations, and clinical settings.

FCRR’s main offices are off campus in approximately 30,000 sq. feet of high-tech office space in Innovation Park and additional offices and research space on-campus in FSU’s Psychology Building. FCRR is supported by a dedicated IT team to support teleconferencing, programming, and data storage, and a dedicated communications team to support website and social media management, development and dissemination of creative media, and video production. Students may also have access to additional resources to support research activities, including computers, laptops, video cameras, and assessment materials, site licenses for common data management and analysis applications, and office space within FCRR, with access to supplies, copying and printing.
FCRR is housed at Florida State University, a Carnegie Foundation Doctoral/Research University-Extensive. FSU offers doctorate degree in 81 fields. In 2017, women made up 62% and minorities made up 37% of total enrollment. FSU has received national recognition with “Higher Education Excellence in Diversity” awards the past five years. Students will have full access to university resources, such as: the Strozier Library and the 7 other campus libraries, which contain more than 3 million volumes and 1,047 databases; the Office of Information Technology Services, which manages a high-speed network and virtual lab, allowing remote access to a variety of software and statistical packages; the Student Disability Resource Center, which serves as the primary advocate for students with disabilities; and the Graduate School, which offers several programs to prepare doctoral students to take on research careers including small grants for student research projects and travel to attend professional conferences.

FCRR faculty have secured more than $40 million of support for research projects from entities like the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Department of Education (DOE). Each year, faculty are actively engaged in dozens of funded research projects. In addition, FCRR also has long-standing partnerships with several local and state education agencies and community partners across the region to conduct rigorous research, develop assessments and instructional tools, and provide professional development, training, and technical assistance to P-12 practitioners and other education stakeholders. Consequently, students have access to several apprenticeship opportunities that feature a variety of content and developmental areas of focus, methodological approaches, and research, dissemination, and translation activities. The quantity and quality of these activities helps ensure that students develop competencies in research, leadership, entrepreneurship, and service.
