Yi-Chieh (Sophie) Newton, Ph.D.

Yi-Chieh Newton is an Associate in Research at the Florida Center for Reading Research. Dr. Newton has served as project manager/data analyst on various IES-funded research projects including Reading for Understanding--Assessment subaward from ETS and subaward from MDRC focused on academic language. As a certified What Works Clearinghouse reviewer, Dr. Newton has also worked on several systematic reviews focusing on the effectiveness of adolescent literacy programs and academic language interventions. In 2017, Dr. Newton took on the role of Co-PI on a REL funded systematic review spanning 20 years of research on effective literacy interventions for preschool aged children. Her research interests include early literacy, metalinguistic knowledge, reading/writing difficulties, cross-linguistic influence, measurement development and quantitative methods.
