A Florida State University Center

How do I calcuate the EI Index

1. Count the number of students at “Strategic” or “Intensive” at Assessment 1 (11 students)
2. Count the number of students who moved from “Strategic” at Assessment 1 to “Initial” at Assessment 2 (1 student)
3. Count the number of students who moved from “Intensive” at Assessment 1 to “Strategic” or “Initial” at Assessment 2 (2 students)
4. Add the total number of students from steps 2 and 3 (1 + 2 = 3)
5. 3/11 or 27% of the students increased their performance from Assessment 1 to Assessment 2.

If students begin the year as “Strategic” and increase to “Initial” at Assessment 2, the additional interventions provided and their implementation were effective.

If students begin the year as “Intensive” and increase to “Strategic” at Assessment 2, the additional interventions provided and their implementation were effective.

If students maintained their current level of instruction or drop to a lower level of instruction, the additional interventions or their implementation were not effective and should be modified or changed.
