A Florida State University Center

Scaffolded Instruction

Scaffolded instruction is support provided to students to help them perform the expected task. Scaffolding refers to the immediate and specific feedback that a teacher uses to support a student during instruction or practice. This may include giving encouragement or cues, breaking the task into smaller steps, using a graphic organizer, or providing an example. Scaffolding helps to differentiate the instruction to meet the different needs of students.
