A Florida State University Center

Third Grade Group 3

Our third group, consisting of five students, is reading slightly below grade level at mid-year. In the sample reading block schedule, this group is scheduled for small group instruction three times a week, for twenty minutes each day. These students are further along in the development of their oral reading fluency (ORF) than the students in Group 2, and are reading words in connected text. They would most likely benefit from additional instruction to strengthen their fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills, as the demands of reading become more challenging. The highlighted guiding questions below will give you a better idea of where to begin instruction for each student.
