A Florida State University Center

Third Grade 90+ Minute Reading Block Schedule

Always keep in mind that small group time should be utilized solely for reading instruction (e.g., teaching word recognition, spelling patterns, word structure, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension). Whole group instruction should include all of the elements of reading and language arts: phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. The balance of instructional time between whole group and small group instruction will change, depending on the needs of your students. The small group instruction is specifically designed to meet the needs of the students in each group, and should concentrate on those elements that are currently most critical to help each student meet grade level expectations.
