Intervention Projects
The Intervention Department provides intervention leadership and assistance to Reading First schools through the Director of Interventions. Support is provided in three main areas:
Providing information and current research on effective intervention
Developing materials and tools to help schools implement more effective intervention
Preparing and making presentations to various groups about effective intervention
Director
Liz Crawford, M.S., CCC-SLP
Liz Crawford has extensive experience in providing research-based interventions in reading to elementary school students. She has worked as a Title I reading tutor, a first grade teacher, and a speech and language pathologist in both school and outpatient hospital settings. She has expertise in addressing the instructional needs of students in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension through the application of explicit and systematic instructional programs. As Director of Interventions she leads the center's projects in the area of providing effective interventions to all students.
Intervention Specialist
Elissa Arndt, M.S., CCC-SLP
A speech-language pathologist and reading specialist with experience teaching Pre-K through eighth grade students with language-based disabilities, reading intervention for struggling readers, and teaching reading methods and intervention classes to pre-service and in-service teachers.
