Frequently Asked Questions about the K-3 Student Center Activities developed by the Florida Center for Reading Research
Q. Can I purchase the books for the Student Center Activities?
A. They are not available for purchase. You can print the activities from this website or make a copy of the materials from a Teacher or Reading Coach from a Florida Reading First school.
Q. How much do the materials cost?A. They are a free resource provided for educators.
Q. What materials are included?A. The Student Center Activities were created over a two year period. Center Activities for Kindergarten and First Grade were published in 2005. Center Activities for Second and Third Grade were published in 2006. The activities are formatted in the following manner.
Kindergarten and First Grade Student Center Activities are comprised of three books containing Activity Plans, Activity Masters, and resource information. In addition, there is a DVD which is intended to be used for professional development. The subject matter contained within each book is listed below:
- Book 1: Phonological Awareness and Phonics Student Center Activities
- Book 2: Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension Student Center Activities
- Book 3: Resource Guide (accompanied by a Professional Development DVD)
The Second and Third Grade Center Activities are comprised of three books and contain Activity Plans, Activity Masters, and resource information. In addition, there is a DVD which is intended to be used for professional development. The subject matter contained within each book is listed below:
- Book 1: Phonological Awareness and Phonics Student Center Activities
- Book 2: Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension Student Center Activities
- Book 3: Teacher Resource Guide (accompanied by a Professional Development DVD)
A. Student Center Activities for Second and Third Grade were distributed in the following manner:
- Florida Reading First Coaches received all three books and the professional development DVD at the Coaches Academy in 2005.
- Florida Reading First Kindergarten, First Grade, and ESE teachers have received the three books. These materials were shipped or delivered to the Reading First District contact person (in Sept/Oct, 2005) who then distributed the materials to Reading First schools. The Reading Coach at each school was asked to share the professional development DVD with these teachers.
- Florida Non-Reading First School Districts received one set of the books and one DVD in late fall, 2005. the district determined how they would distribute the materials.

- Florida Non-Reading First School Districts received one set of the books and one DVD in late Fall, 2006. The district determined how to distribute the materials.
